A banda The Flying Machine teve apenas um único grande sucesso em 1969, com "Smile A Little Smile For Me", que alcançou o número 5 na lista da Billboard nos EUA, pela gravadora Kapp Records´ Congress. Até dezembro do ano de seu lançamento, eles já haviam vendido 1 milhão de cópias do disco e também premiados com um disco de ouro pela R.I.A.A.A canção foi escrita pela dupla Tony Macauley e Geoff Stevens. No ano seguinte, outro single, um cover de "Baby Make It Soon", gravado pela primeira vez pelo Marmalade, entrou para a lista das 100 Mais, mas o grupo já estava condenado. Um último single, "The Devil Has Possession of Your Mind", sugeriu uma mudança de direção, mas o Flying Machine acabou logo após seu lançamento.
